When the emergency room at Clark Regional Medical Center began to overflow with patients who had painful but not life-threatening problems‚ the hospital responded by building the Clark Immediate Care Center.
And when patients began to complain about long waits at nearby Lexington’s pain-management facility‚ Clark Regional set aside part of the hospital’s facilities for the Clark Regional Medical Center Pain Clinic.
These are just two examples of how the hospital goes the extra mile to meet residents’ and patients’ needs.
“ There was just such a need for pain management‚” says Angie Lang‚ director of marketing for Clark Regional Medical Center. “Since we started the clinic it is booking up fast and we will [be] expanding it to meet the community’s needs.”
Besides state-of-the-art equipment‚ the clinic also offers care from physicians‚ nurses‚ physical therapists‚ dietitians and behavioral-health counselors. Realizing that pain varies greatly from person to person‚ the clinic approaches care with a variety of treatments‚ including medications‚ exercise‚ family counseling‚ physical therapy and relaxation techniques.
The clinic is able to help patients suffering from arthritis‚ accident or sports injuries‚ cancer‚ chronic headaches and back pain‚ among other ailments. Lang credits the clinic’s director‚ Dr. Karim Rasheed‚ with bringing the most up-to-date treatments to Clark County.
Clark Immediate Care Center provides prompt non-emergent care complementary to emergency-room care and specializes in the treatment of people who need urgent care but do not have life-threatening conditions. “The Care Center takes care of colds and flu‚ X-rays for sports injuries and occupational medicine‚ which might include drug testing or pre-employment physical examinations‚” Lang says.
Phillips Medical Systems has chosen Clark Regional as one of its national show sites‚ which means it uses the hospital to display its equipment in a real hospital setting to potential clients. As a result‚ the hospital’s radiology department is able to bring some of the latest technology to its patients‚ such as a diagnostic interventional radiology program‚ which can help prevent serious medical conditions.
The advanced radiology equipment gives doctors a better understanding of patients’ ailments before surgery‚ and allows them to perform less-invasive procedures‚ such as angioplasty. The equipment for this program is part of the hospital’s investment in the community.
“ These machines are multipurpose in that they can do both new and technologically advanced and more common medical procedures‚” Lang says. “The fact that we have them has helped in attracting high-quality staff members as well as providing patients with the most up-to-date care.”
